A Children’s Group: Opening to Spirit of Respect, Love, and Joy
The purpose of this children’s group is to teach children the true nature of respect toward self and others, including all of life around us. Using mindful exercises and increasing our awareness in creative expression, integrating concepts from Buddhist and native traditions, children can bring deeper meaning to their day to day lives.
Respect begins with the recognition that we are receiving something very special from someone or something. In fact gratitude is often a companion of respect. As we identify and feel really present with the gifts this world provides, we can begin to love and appreciate more, and in turn respect more. We can begin to see the gifts we have within us as well, learning to respect and appreciate ourselves.
This special children’s group series will include observing, feeling, and smelling live herbs, helping children identify how they serve us in special ways. Weather permitting, we will also do a “backyard” nature walk, also seeing my garden and the plants.
We will also look at the gifts we have within, starting with our voices and our feelings and what they do for us. We may explore through different mediums, such as drawing, who we really are, in our feelings, so we can recognize and respect the gifts and creativity we carry that may serve others (and enjoy it!) just as the plants serve us.
Parents will first meet for an orientation as well as a discussion regarding their role in encouraging mindfulness exercises between sessions. Beginning October 10th, 8 sessions, early Tuesday evenings, Sliding $20-35 per session or insurance/co-pay.
